A little late...

Happy International Women's Day!

Let's keep up the good fight!

Belated thank you. One of my co-workers made a point of underlining it yesterday, too. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

A little late on the shirt post, but I find a lot of the shirts that are made these days, especially ones intended for the junior (13-17) set particularly offensive. While they may not understand the innuendo (and if they did who's to say if they would wear them or not, or at least if as many people would wear them), the company making them does. This would seem to indicate that companies wish to brand girls early on to categorize their femininity very definitively (to the point that they are narrowly giving it a specific vocabulary). This definition is not favourable for creating an independent, strong-minded group of girls.
Another shirt I saw said "Yeah, right it's my first time" and was in a section for junior girls. Since girls between 11-14 probably don't have their own currency to disseminate, there is also a huge disconnect with these girls' mothers. Is it 'cute' to sexualize girls of this age? A forty year old woman wearing this shirt would be torn apart by onlookers.
People openly reject any form of pedophilia, but the sexualization of young girls is literally worn on their sleeves.
