Magicland

Today the CA and I went on a little adventure. We boarded a bus (or three) and made our way to that magical, mystical, monstrous blue and yellow building way in the south of Edmonton. Yes my dear readers, we travelled to the place where all your household dreams can come true for a fair and reasonable price. Gosh darn those Swedes are resourceful.

I love Ikea. Well, I love all shopping. I love how giddy new stuff makes me, and I do love clothing shopping. But shopping for bedding and kitchen stuff and furniture is so much more fulfilling for me. There is always a very good chance that shopping for clothing is going to do a number on my self esteem, 'cause there is always something that will be too small or make my hips look wide or something. Staring in a mirror that much just isn't that good for a girl. But household stuff is always fun. There is no doubt that whatever you buy will fit into your life and will look good in your house. And Ikea is like a drug for me. I love walking through the showcases imagining what I can do when I finally settle into a home of my own. I really like the selection and styles Ikea has. And for the stuff I buy to be that much cheaper than any other store makes it all the more sweet.

Case in point. I wanted/needed some new bedding. I'd looked at Ikea (online) first, but I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make it there, so I started to see what other stores (like the Bay or Sears) had to offer. Not only were Ikea's duvet covers at least $100 cheaper but they were nicer too. All the ones I saw at the other (much more easily accessible) stores were ugly and expensive. Now I get that the ones at the Bay have a lovely thread count and everything, but I'm all about aesthetics first and comfort second (which you could tell by looking at my shoe collection), so Ikea was much better in my books.

This is all to say that we had an awesome time. We spent 2 and a half hours in that beautiful building and when we reached the end of the Marketplace and were presented with the checkouts we kept finding reasons to go back and look at one more thing. It was a little ridiculous, honestly. But for two girls without vehicles the chance to go to Ikea is a rare one. And one we relished.

I'm just thankful that some common sense did eventually prevail and that we didn't buy everything we intended to. The bus factor lead to us only being able to purchase what we could comfortable carry. And since we wanted to play Mario Kart on our DS's on the way home (yes we are that cool), we needed to limit our purchases.

I walked away with some new linens for my bed and some storage boxes for my CDs and DVDs, CA got some much needed wine glasses and pillow cases.

All in all a very successful and happy day. I made up my bed with my new stuff as soon as I got home, and I love how beautiful that one corner of my room looks.

Next on the task list, bookshelves and a dresser. Furniture is definately a plus to room organization.
