Inquiring minds want to know
Okay, I feel like I should know this, but I don't. Can anyone tell me why gas prices are so bloody high?
Also, how come the price the gas stations post on their signs are always 3 or 4 cents higher than the actual price of gas? I would think they would want to put their best price on the big sign to attract more people.
Thanks!
Apparantly, when you adjust for inflation, gas prices are actually the lowest they've been since the '80s. The breaking point is like $2.95/gallon or something.
But higher prices in recent years are due to increased demand from China and India and the inability of the Middle East, et al, to provide a steady, reliable supply.
I have no idea why the prices are different on the sign than at the pumps. Maybe they don't put provincial tax on the pumps?

it's some promotional thing... in front of most gas stations they have a sign that says "3 1/2 cents off!". i've never actually read why or anything.
