Orlando Bloom wouldn't date me.

I think I'm going to cry.

Except not.

So in the latest issue of YM, Orlando Bloom lets it's young female readers know that he won't date feminists.

"I mean I respect them and everything, but they're tough. I'd like someone a little more feminine."

Cause as we all know feminine and tough are mutually exclusive terms.

Moron.

Oh my god! Are you serious? I don't like that little ignorant freak now! Not just for being ignorant but for making stupid little teenage girls think they can't be feminine and for equal rights...
I didn't like him that much before anyway, him and his little pube pathetic moustache.

So he's not allowed to have an opinion on the types of women he'd seriously date, but we're allowed to ridicule him and make fun of his physical appearance? Huh?

A few things....
1)Blogger has changed the way comments are left. Even if you don't have a blog now you can have your name show up. Just click on the "other" spot and it will have a space for you to write your name.

So please do that.

2) Dear Anonymous. I don't really care what he looks like. I still think he's pretty cute to be honest. What is annoying is that he's furthering the stigmatization of the word "feminist". He's bought into the idea that all feminists are hairy legged man-hating lesbians. Not that there's anything wrong with being a hairy legged, man-hating, lesbian. I have quite hairy legs right now and I've been known to go off on an anti-man rant every once and awhile. But that is not all feminists, or even the majority of feminists. So that's pretty annoying of him, he's ignorant of the subject. If he could give a reason better than feminists are not feminine for his reason of not liking them fine. If his comment was along the lines of "I don't like to date women with blue eyes". I'd be all "whatever", your own preferance dude. I have no problem with the shallowness of such a comment.
But what really bugs in that quote is that there is still this idea that feminine = weak, docile, sweet. Someone who will let him be the stereotypical "man" in the relationship. My idea of feminine, based on all the women in my life, is tough, strong and smart. This is why Orlando Bloom is stupid. If he prefers his women to be weak. That's fine. Say that. It's stupid, but fine. But don't tell a magazine that is aimed at pre-teen to teenage girls that a cute boy like him won't date them if they stand up for their gender. Or support their gender. Or want equal rights for both men and women. That is very, very uncool and he should know better.

duly noted. I was being hypocritical...but I agree with the other part of what tessa said, it's the message that he's sending out, and he knows all the girls that like him are listening with open ears...

I think Orlando is really good-looking, but he's never come off as being the brightest bulb in the box. Sarah Michelle Gellar made it clear in some teen magazine a few years ago that she didn't want to be called a feminist because she doesn't want to be seen as some man-hater. Which is of course hilarious, given the whole Buffy phenomenon. Lots of people just don't see that simply believing that men and women deserve equal rights constitutes a feminist.

Poor little uninformed and confused Orlando. What a great way to build an adoring following of intelligent, self-aware women. I'm sure he'll go far now that the world knows he's an idiot.

Hey Tessa!

Work is sending me to Van 23rd, 24th, 25th. I'll be in a hotel for one of the days and at my Uncle's for the rest. You going to be around? We should hang out! Email me your number so we can work out the details.

My 2 cents on Orlando: those comments are pretty funny coming from a guy who became famous for playing an elf--which is about as "unmasculine" as a man can get. Maybe he's overcompensating now or something? Is he driving a pimped out SUV these days with Aston Kutcher?
